God gives us "a sound mind"
When we learn that Mind is God and that we belong to Him, we find that fear cannot shake our thinking.
"Gazing at a chained lion, crouched for a spring, should not terrify a man." This sentence from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy always gets my attention. I mean, a lion ready to spring could be terrifying. But if the lion were chained—well, I'd feel safe.
Sometimes it seems as if the world is full of lions crouched for a spring—as if there are lots of terrifying things about to happen. But when we find out about God and His power, we find out that, as terrifying as those things may seem to be, they are already chained by God. Springing doesn't get them anywhere.
God is good. And God loves us. As we learn more about God's love and goodness, we find that we are always safe under His care and control. There is never a legitimate reason to be afraid. In fact, God even chains up the fear.
