I had numerous healings throughout my childhood through Christian Science, but for a while I took the teachings I learned and the healings I experienced for granted. I followed a life style that left me dissatisfied and unhappy. Then, through consistent prayer and purified desires, I was healed of the appetite for alcohol, cigarettes, and other drugs.

I knew the truth in this statement of Christ Jesus' found in Luke: "Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Two sentences from Science and Health were very meaningful to me as I prayed. They were "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified" and "In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,—which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death."

Through prayer and effort I found the patience, honesty, and strength I needed in order to claim that man is truly inseparable from God's tender love. There were many battles, but victory finally came. Also, when I had felt and demonstrated the moral freedom inherent in my true, spiritual nature, warts on my hands completely disappeared.
