All that I value in life I owe to Christian Science
All that I value in life I owe to Christian Science. So recording my deliverance from the effects of an accidental drug overdose is overdue.
Though raised in a family committed to Christian Science practice, I was hardly a metaphysical pacesetter in my Christian Science college organization. Still, I kept to enough moral standards that I could honorably call myself a student of Christian Science. One night I attended a party with a date in the city near the university. Seeing nothing but wine and liquor, I mixed some lemonade from the remainder of liquid lemon concentrate in my host's refrigerator. I drank all the tart liquid and unexpectedly felt dizzy.
I asked my host what I had drunk. Shocked, he said, "My whole stash of peyote—four hits!" (Later I learned that the mescaline component of peyote mushrooms is a hallucinogen in the same class as LSD. A typical dose results in many hours of radical perceptual distortion.)
