Why hath eye not seen?
Sometimes when we don't see what we're looking for, it's because we're looking in the wrong place!
As a child I often heard Paul's statement "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." I Cor. 2:9.
My mother used these words to explain her deep faith in heaven as a specific locality reserved for those who followed God's laws. We both were comforted by that promise of a place so beautiful and perfect it could not be described or imagined or seen by human eye, but which we would reach, as a beloved old hymn said, "In the sweet by-and-by."
Since that long-ago time, Paul's promise has come to mean even more to me, but in a different way, because I find in it a deeper meaning.
