In 1939 my mother began to study Christian Science

In 1939 my mother began to study Christian Science. I was concerned about her interest in it, so I began to read Christian Science literature to see what it was all about. I never intended to follow this teaching myself.

After my first healing (I had been attending a Christian Science Society on Sunday mornings and our own church on Sunday evenings), I knew something was happening to change my thought and life. Each day when I arrived home from work, I made a point of reading the Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. This lesson became very important to me. Since that time I have become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church and have had many healings.

In December 1985, while I was baking, I spilled a cup of boiling fat on my hand and wrist and suffered a third-degree burn. The pain was severe. I called a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for me. Later I made arrangements for a Christian Science nurse to dress the hand. It also seemed wise that I enter a nursing facility for Christian Scientists, where my hand could be kept clean and bandaged. The nurses who cared for me were very kind and helpful. As they went about their work, they shared meaningful truths of my real being as God's perfect spiritual idea. The pain was overcome, and I was able to sleep peacefully.
