About eighteen years ago I learned of Christian Science...
About eighteen years ago I learned of Christian Science through a close friend who lived next door. Quite often we visited a few minutes during the day. One morning I went over to her house in tears and poured out my problems. Somehow the subject turned to Christian Science, and I noticed a set of books on her table. I was familiar with the King James Bible, but had never seen Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Nor had I heard of Christian Science before this. I asked her what it was, and she explained it to me. Then I asked her if she thought I could ever be a Christian Scientist. She said yes, and lent me her copy of Science and Health. I took the book home and read it.
From early childhood I had been extremely nervous and frail, and sickly from constipation. A doctor had told me I had pernicious anemia and could never be cured of it but would always have to take vitamins and shots just to keep from being bedridden. I was also suffering from migraine headaches, and my two young boys were frequently ill with colds and croup.
After I read Science and Health, I returned it to my friend, who asked me how I was feeling. (She knew that previous to this time I had been going to the doctor for shots every two weeks. It had now been six weeks since I had seen him.) I told her I felt great—had never felt better in my life—and I wondered aloud if I had been healed. She put her arms around me and said, "My dear, you have had a wonderful healing!"
