Over ten years ago I was told by a physician that I had leukemia
Over ten years ago I was told by a physician that I had leukemia. He then sent me to a cancer specialist, who confirmed this diagnosis. The specialist ordered an operation to analyze a growth in one of my breasts, and I was admitted to a hospital at once.
There I thought about the grim plan for my future. My daughter came to see me the night before the operation. I told her that I should know better than to choose this course, as in the past our family had enjoyed the fruits of Christian Science for many years. She reminded me that Mary Baker Eddy quotes these words: "man's extremity is God's opportunity" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 266). I knew then what I had to do. I left the hospital with my daughter immediately.
The next day I called on a Christian Science practitioner and told her of my decision to rely entirely on this Science for healing. She agreed to give me treatment through prayer. She also asked me to look up in the Concordances to the Bible and to Mrs. Eddy's writings the terms "God" and "man." I was to study what these words meant, to trust God, and not to be afraid.
