A time for faith—and demonstration
The 1970's may stand out in history as the years when enlightened faith and spiritual priorities survived severe attack and continued to grow despite pervasive materialism.
Christian Scientists, for example, moving through 1979, the centennial year of the founding of their denomination, have been typed by critics as "out of tune with the times"; nothing more than "old-time" religionists; unmindful of the world's needs; oblivious to death and disease. One nationally syndicated television program featuring two disaffected parents characterized the teachings of Christian Science as nothing but "a fragile magic."
Obviously, these are times for people with faith in God to dig in, to pray more deeply, to stand together for the validity of their own spiritual experience and the authority of divine Spirit in their lives.
