Years ago I was able to work out the solution of a business problem with the help of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 7), "The 'divine ear' is not an auditory nerve. It is the all-hearing and all-knowing Mind, to whom each need of man is always known and by whom it will be supplied." This "all-hearing and all-knowing Mind" led me unerringly through great difficulties and helped me to demonstrate the omnipotence of God.
In my husband's office, his one employee was incapacitated due to illness. Although I had learned the same vocation previously, I never loved it. Nevertheless I agreed to help out in this case. Advertisements and other efforts to fill the position were without success. Added to my large household and active church work, I did not find the work in the office easy. I saw it was right to help my husband in this difficult situation. I didn't see it as my personal task but more as a moral obligation. As a result I felt overworked and dissatisfied. Again and again we published notices to find a new office worker, but each time without success. In the meantime, the whole family suffered from our overload.
In the summer of the same year I had class instruction with a Christian Science teacher. I gained thereby a better understanding of Christian Science and also a different attitude toward our business problem. I clearly perceived that my first place was in the office for as long as was necessary for a positive change to come about.
Through my newly gained understanding of the harmony God bestows, it was possible for me to find my own good in unselfishly supplying another's need. Here there was no more room for human will. With complete consecration I prayed to fulfill God's will and overcome my own personal self.
In completely letting go of this matter inwardly and leaving the solution to God, I was so filled with joy that all the work was taken care of effortlessly. I received many spiritual ideas showing me how to fulfill the demands.
My husband sensed my transformation and my complete commitment. He himself made progress spiritually and finally recognized that we are dependent upon God. He then turned in earnest to Christian Science for the first time.
In our business problem, there were at first no good solutions. We worked for another three months, patiently aware of God's guidance, when a colleague of my husband's brought about a change in our situation through a reorganization of his own large firm. He proposed an office pool to my husband, thereby resolving a space problem that had been existing for some time. We were also able to take on one of his employees. It was soon proved that this woman was very appropriate for our office. We felt God's will was fulfilled. In our affairs every detail fit together better than if we had been able to arrive at the solution through human planning.
I am deeply grateful for the prayerful work of a Christian Science practitioner in this situation, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, as well as for the many healings that I have had with the help of Christian Science.
