The key to prayer
Each member of the Christian Science Sunday School class of five seventeen-year-olds said he had faced the same problem: His thoughts began to wander when he attempted to pray. Trivial things got in the way. It seemed almost impossible to focus on the presence of God for any period of time.
As teacher and students discussed the question, they agreed that disciplining thought is more than a matter of human will and effort. There is a key to prayer, a way to commune freely with God through scientifically understanding Him.
The teacher explained how he had solved the problem of daily, disciplined prayer early in his business career. He had resolved to devote a regular period each day to becoming perfectly still and praying. But as soon as he would settle down in his quiet den, he would be tempted to make phone calls, open the window, get a drink of water, rearrange his files, close the window, do anything but be still and pray.
