I learned of Christian Science in the middle of 1973, a few days before my marriage. I had always searched for intelligent answers to all the questions I frequently asked myself about God, man, and the universe. My search had led to a good deal of reading, but the results were not very positive. This Science, which was the best of wedding presents, was the light that opened to me the door of spiritual understanding I had hoped to enter.

During the intervening years, the study of the Bible from this new, spiritual approach, and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, has been correcting, cleansing, and transforming my thought with the purifying waters of truth. Along a path that has not always been easily or rapidly traversed, many concepts I had accepted as true and definitive about myself had to yield to diviner conceptions that always reassure us and tell us of our real, spiritual perfection.

I have immense gratitude today for the specific healing of sadness and of the fear of death. When Christian Science came into my life, I was suffering from these depressing feelings, manifested in sorrow over an illness my mother had and over discordant personal relations, and intense fear that I would be left without my mother. As I advanced in my understanding of these new teachings and strove to apply them, supported by the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, I began to feel the freedom that comes with recognition of the spiritual reality of creation.
