The high goal

What is our goal—
to be powerful, famous, rich,
and then lazily to loll at pleasure's ease?
No. Science demands a goal
higher than these.

Is this our goal—
to be happy, honest, and free,
and, trusting God, to be whole each joyfilled day?
No. These are Love's steppingstones
along the way.

Christ is the goal
of our study, our thought, our prayer.
The consummate goal that earned the world's attention
our Master exemplified
by his ascension.
