Identity Maintained

The summer I was eighteen I attended a college nature camp for three weeks, the only Christian Scientist among forty other people. The days were spent in collecting, identifying, and cataloging butterflies, plants, and rocks on our daily hikes through mountain paths.

Everything in nature spoke of God's presence and power. The beauties of nature pointed to what Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal." Science and Health, p. 70;

But here, in the midst of this tranquillity, I discovered an eruptive-looking spot on my skin. Shortly after, it appeared quite ugly and was noticed by the women's chaperone.
