A friend recommended that I call a Christian Science practitioner because I had many health problems. I had suffered repeated bouts with pneumonia, nosebleeds, and daily headaches. In addition, asthma was an affliction that made me unable to lie down to sleep.

The practitioner drove quite a distance to see me. He assured me, in Christ Jesus' words from the Bible (John 11:4), "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God." This allayed my fears to such an extent that I just sank down on the sofa into a peaceful sleep. The other healings followed over a period of time.

The healing of smoking came only after a lengthy struggle on my part, because I thought I enjoyed the habit. I bitterly resented it when a friend, who was trying to help me, took my cigarettes from me. Then the thought came, Those who "hunger and thirst after righteousness... shall be filled" (Matt. 5:6). This thought, together with the prayer of the practitioner, released me from all desire to smoke.
