One day a few years ago, a severe pain developed in the lower part of my back. I could not walk, sit, or even lie still in comfort.
After a day of trying to heal myself of this suffering, I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. She said she would be happy to pray for me and then told me how much God loved me, because I was His perfect child, His image and likeness, as is recorded in Genesis (1:27), "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him."
The practitioner also referred me to Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question, "What is man?" in Science and Health. I especially worked with these lines (p. 475): "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness." And further in the same paragraph she says, "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique."
