In 1943 my young son was suffering from asthma, my husband was serving with the armed forces in combat zones, and I was in a state of fear for them both, with a deep desire to feel safe and loved. I had begun to look to people for guidance and happiness. Then, while staying in another county where I had taken my young son for his health, Christian Science was presented to me as a cure for him. After some days I decided to investigate this new way of thought. It worked a great change in me. I felt so uplifted my feet did not seem to touch the ground.

The first day home I called on a Christian Science practitioner and said, "Tell me more of this divine Science." She talked with me of God, who is Love, and lent me a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I attended my first church service, became a student of this Science, and there opened up a new way of reasoning, acting, and understanding.
