Another Rejection?

Don't you believe it! God is unvarying divine Love, and the very nature of Love is to enfold, to embrace its universe of spiritual ideas in tenderest approval. This ever-present, ever-active caring is a law of God, precluding the possibility of rejection.

The sun sends forth its rays, and the sunbeam has no power underived from the sun. Even so, man, the idea of divine Mind, is God's direct witness. Man loves because God loves; he is the effect of the all-loving Mind.

All of God's ideas move in accord with His law of love. Man's entire being is governed by divine Love, which is perpetually conscious of its ideas. God's constant knowledge of and love for His children are our guarantee of eternal approval by Him.

Then why this complaint of rejection? A friendship grows cold; a marriage partner becomes silent; an employer seems difficult. What is wrong?

Mortal, material sense suggests that each one of us has a private personal mind—separate from God. It is this false consciousness that feels rejected, ignored, refused. Christ Jesus spoke of the devil, material-mindedness, this way: "When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44;

With the understanding that there is just one Mind, not many minds, and one infinite creation, completely divine, we can demonstrate step by step God's complete control of man. The spiritual universe is the only universe—there cannot be more than one infinity.

The Mind that is Love is a never-failing support to its creation. The motherhood of God tenderly cares for each of us. The infinitude of Mind leaves no room for a belief of rejection to gain a foothold. Divine Principle includes all, holds all, satisfies all, with divine authority. We realize Love's approval when we seek the divine reality in every situation. Mrs. Eddy writes, "We must look deep into realism instead of accepting only the outward sense of things." Science and Health, p. 129;

To the degree that we identify ourselves as Mind's reflection, we come to feel God's love for us and recognize our inherent spiritual completeness.

A young woman sought the companionship of a certain young man. They shared similar interests, and the relationship seemed very agreeable from her point of view. She worked diligently to bring about social contacts with the young man. What a campaign she waged, but all in vain! Nothing evolved from all her strategy but hurt feelings and a very crushing, deep sense of rejection. She felt strongly rebuked by the young man with every encounter.

"What is wrong?" she asked herself. Then it dawned that she certainly had a Father-Mother God who not only could, but would, give her the answer. Turning to the spiritual fact of one Mind governing all identities, she began to realize that willfully promoting self was definitely not the answer! She gradually saw that she was already complete. With comforting clarity she realized that she included every idea of divine Love; God had already bestowed upon her the ability to reflect all the good He included.

No false, rejecting sense could even seem present or powerful to her now. She was delighted to know also that not only her own but everyone's completeness was a spiritual fact known to each one as a reflection of divine Mind. No one could know lack or dissatisfaction. She felt the return of love in all her relationships and made many friends who remained faithful and cherished. She was now realizing to a degree her unity with divine Love and Love's perfect law of fulfillment.

As we realize the all-inclusive control of spiritual law in our relationships, our daily contacts become more relaxed and fruitful. We demonstrate more of divine Mind's perfect relationship to its entire creation.

Christian Science assures us that the right spiritual idea to solve every belief of rejection is present—here and now—and it is divinely empowered. Love's law governs, not partially but fully. No one is unnoticed or unprovided for in Love's plan. In the sweet relationship of Father-Mother to child, there is no unrecognized or neglected worth. In the purity of Love's sight, man is never a faulty mortal, never erring or straying from his perfect Principle. The all-power of Spirit is never challenged by a lesser presence or power. But we need to demonstrate this by identifying ourselves and others spiritually and by purifying our thoughts and motives. Though God never rejects man, if we identify ourselves with evil, we may suffer from the belief of rejection.

How much of God's perfection are we attributing to our fellowman? Are we faithfully cherishing our neighbor's true, God-given identity in spite of any material sense testimony to the contrary? Accepting only man's innate value as Mind's witness requires constant vigilance on our part.

Mrs. Eddy reminds us, "We must receive the divine Principle in the understanding, and live it in daily life." ibid., p. 283; Proving man's divine heritage as a son of God, accepting only His pure thoughts, we joyfully feel His full approval. The Bible assures us, "Whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." James 1:25.
