How Physical Is Healing?

The practice of Christian Science includes physical healing. True or false? True. For more than a century now individuals have relied on Christian Science throughout long lives for their physical healthcare; families have similarly relied on it for four or five generations, perhaps more. It stands on its record; and the record shows that this treatment has healed and continues to heal the widest spectrum of physical troubles.

This nonphysical treatment, wholly spiritual and mental, has healed many physical conditions that would be medically classified as nervous, functional, or psychosomatic. It has also healed, without any material assistance other than unmedicated cleansing and dressing when necessary, deep-seated and long-established organic diseases, fractured bones, severely damaged or lost faculties. In some instances individuals apparently at the point of death or already showing the commonly accepted evidences of death have been restored to health.

The Gospels relate that John the Baptist, hearing in prison of Jesus' mighty works, sent two followers to inquire of him if he was indeed the Messiah, or Christ, he who should come. Christ Jesus replied, "Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."^{Matt. 11:4, 5;} To the sincere inquirer Christian Science offers a similar answer. Its healing works, motivated by compassionate love and effected through the operation of divine law, testify to the presence of the Christ Science, the Comforter that Jesus promised would lead into all truth.
