Since my first testimony, which appeared in the Sentinel of...
Since my first testimony, which appeared in the Sentinel of February 21, 1959, I have had many blessings as the result of my application of Christian Science in my daily affairs. The earlier testimony told of my employment during the economic depression of the 1930's. I continued to be employed until I reached mandatory retirement age. Since then I have been just as active in various accounting jobs, including branch church work and local visiting nurse service for Christian Scientists.
Our need for a smaller house after retirement was beautifully supplied within ten days when we were able to sell our house and buy one which better suited our needs. We were inspired by this Bible verse (II Cor. 8:14): "But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality."
My wife and I were wonderfully protected in an automobile accident which occurred in 1972 when we were on our way to the East Coast. The car left the highway and was damaged beyond repair. We were taken to a nearby hospital. As soon as I was conscious I let it be known we were Christian Scientists and wanted no medication. I asked to have our son notified. With the help of The Christian Science Journal he was able to locate a Christian Science practitioner within fifty miles of the hospital, who visited with us that same evening. Her first words were from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 254): "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God." This statement was in the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly that week and I was very familiar with it. What a comforting feeling to know that, although we were eight hundred miles from home, we were never separated from God. Our son arrived the next day and took care of all the problems connected with this incident. As my glasses were lost, I was grateful that through the many years of daily study of the Lesson-Sermons I had memorized many Bible verses and statements from Science and Health, as well as a number of hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. These filled my thought with the assurance of God's presence and kept thought off physical injuries. The practitioner made daily visits to us, and after seven days we were released from the hospital and secured airline reservations to go home. The practitioner called the local visiting nurse for Christian Scientists; she arranged to meet us at the airport and took care of us in our own home. With the help of a practitioner in our own city, the healing was completed and I was able to take care of all my assignments. The insurance company required a complete examination by a physician before renewing my automobile insurance, and he wrote across the examination paper, "Completely recovered from the effects of accident." My wife's recovery was also complete.
