God Made Us Free
The prophet voices God's demand, "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?" Isa. 58:6;
To cast off the yoke of bondage to materialism was a difficult adjustment for me. I had been raised in a medically minded family and had never thought of myself as a spiritual idea of God—untouched by physical beliefs. Notwithstanding, through consistent and prayerful study of Christian Science I learned that spiritual freedom is the natural condition and heritage of man as the image of God.
We cannot be in bondage any more than God can be. This healing religion—this Science of Christ—ends bondage to all human philosophy and expands the thought of who we really are as God's reflection. Through its truths students can prove that all abnormal mental and physical conditions can be healed, for they are but deceptive illusions of mortal thought—ignorance of spiritual freedom.
