Although I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School during part of my childhood and, therefore, had some understanding of the loving presence and tender care of our heavenly Father, during my teen years and early adulthood I had neglected and fallen away from the study of God's laws.

I resumed my study of Christian Science and began to attend church regularly. A Christian Science practitioner gave me treatment for the symptoms of a nervous breakdown. These symptoms were healed with no loss of time from work, and with very few of my relatives and none of my co-workers aware of the suffering I had experienced.

For some years I had had frequent falls and near falls, due to the turning of weak ankles. These incidents were sometimes painful and were always, at the least, annoying and uncomfortable. One of these falls resulted in a badly injured back. In this extremity, I was greatly helped and comforted by study of citations assuring me of God's nearness and support. One citation in Psalms (36:7) was especially helpful: "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings."
