A wonderful healing took place for me shortly after I was introduced to Christian Science.

Years before, because of excessive drinking, I had lost my family through divorce. Then followed many moves to different parts of the country, many jobs (also lost) until I wound up as a mental patient in a veterans' hospital in California. I told myself I had had a stroke and was unable to work, though the condition was that I had become an alcoholic.

When my former wife (who by that time was a student of Christian Science) heard of my condition, she came to California and told me that I did not belong in a hospital; that there was nothing wrong to keep me there as a mental patient. I do not recall the exact quotation of Mary Baker Eddy's that she used, but the next morning I was discharged from the hospital as a well man. One nurse was overheard expressing her surprise at the remarkable change in me that had come overnight. I am sure now it was my wife's spiritual conviction, as well as what she told me, that brought the remarkable change. I went back to my hometown to work for the same company I had started with years before.
