"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. vii). When I ponder these words, I am filled with a great sense of joy and humility, for indeed my life has been filled with the abundance of God's love and protection.

Several years ago, while employed at a juvenile reformatory, an incident occurred in which I was most sincerely grateful for "the sustaining infinite." A girl who had been returned after escaping from the reformatory was placed in a room that contained only a cot and a washbasin with a mirror over it. A rather alarming situation developed, and I was called to help. When I arrived there were several staff workers nervously standing in front of the door. The girl, locked inside, said she was going to kill herself, using broken glass. There was much confusion and fear among those present. It was obvious that entry had to be made.

As a regular pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School I had been taught to listen for God's direction. I remember praying that His will be done and that I be led to do the right thing at the right time. I asked the staff workers to leave, and told the girl that I was coming in to help her. She replied that she would kill me if I entered. I again told her that I was coming in and that I had great trust in her, that I knew she wanted only to do the right thing.
