From the time I was ten years old, God has been my only physician and Christian Science my only medicine. In the past thirty-seven years I have experienced many healings as a result of claiming my divine rights as a child of God.

At one time I suffered from a back ailment and was unable to move without being carried. I felt that I was trapped inside my body and literally chained to a bed. Mary Baker Eddy makes clear what had formed this chain when she writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 227), "The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being."

As I struggled to free myself from a physical condition, I became more depressed. The harder I fought to rule sickness and pain out of my body, the more restricted I became. I turned my thought more humbly to God and stopped thinking of my material body or mortal selfhood and let the truth of my spiritual relationship to God unfold in my thought. This brought into view my perfect spiritual individuality as the object of God's love. I began to realize how much God loved me and was then able to resist the temptation to feel sorry for myself. I started expressing more Godlike qualities.
