Be Brave-and Don't Panic!

In Isaiah we read, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isa. 41:10;

What a challenge not to be afraid, however terrifying or acute the difficulty facing us, but to have genuine trust in God's mercy and in His love for man, to be brave and courageous! Just what do we mean by being brave? For one who adheres to the teachings of Christian Science couldn't we say it is to have the courage of his spiritual conviction that God is the perfect cause and man His perfect effect, and to actively refuse to accept the evidence of the physical senses, however frightening?

Valiancy based on an understanding of God's omnipotence is not human bravado. It expresses love and humility rather than pride or boastfulness, wisdom instead of recklessness. True bravery is the expression of moral, not animal, courage. It involves willingness to do God's will rather than one's own.
