Through the study of Christian Science these words of Christ Jesus now have a new, alive, and practical meaning for me (John 8:32): "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The understanding that spiritual truth frees us enables me to face any kind of difficulty with assurance.

One day I was in the office of the firm I work for in the capacity of correspondent and interpreter, and I was preparing the program for a trip abroad I was to take two days later. I suddenly became ill, so that I almost lost consciousness. I succeeded in overcoming that feeling, but symptoms of slight hemorrhaging and pain throughout the body were frightening, since I had never before had such symptoms.

One of my colleagues, alarmed by my appearance, wanted to call a doctor. Instead, I asked her to telephone a Christian Science practitioner. I told the practitioner in a weak voice I was very ill and urgently needed his help. He assured me he would do prayerful metaphysical work and we would talk on the telephone again as soon as I was home.
