The following testimony I give in deep gratitude to God for Mary Baker Eddy, the author of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

At an examination for the military service I was told I had an active case of tuberculosis. This was quite a blow to a young man just out of college and starting his business career. A chest specialist confirmed the diagnosis, telling me I would have to lie flat on my back for six months to two years. He told me I would never live a normal life and would not live very long if I did not take bed rest at once.

I left the doctor's office that day very depressed and wondering what to do. Before I could enter a sanatorium I would have to wait for the papers to clear for my admittance. I went home to be with my parents while awaiting admission to a state sanatorium.
