Christian Science came into my life...
Christian Science came into my life in my early twenties. I found it a wonderful study because at that time I was unoccupied, bored, and living on a very large farm, miles away from the nearest village. Later we moved to a town where I became involved in music, singing, stage productions, and broadcasting. I was so steeped in materiality that the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly fell away, and I only had time to attend an occasional church service.
Years later I experienced what I thought was a great tragedy. In my sorrow I turned wholeheartedly to God, and through the prayerful study of Christian Science I have experienced a completely new way of life. My Father-Mother God has given me true substance, joy, and peace.
Many years before I was a Christian Scientist, I had a ganglion removed from my right hand. It was painful and a great source of anxiety before the doctors discovered what it was. About five years ago I noticed I had two very ugly lumps coming up on my left hand, and after playing the piano for three or four hours they would be more painful and larger. My daughter spotted them one day and asked what they were. Then she said, "I hope it's not the trouble you had long ago." I told her they would be healed in a different way this time, and that I was praying about it. I knew they were not real, for I, as a child of God, could only reflect the perfection of God, Spirit. I put into practice these words from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 261): "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."
