The Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel (Isa. 43:1)

The use of the names Jacob and Israel recalls the Peniel experience of the patriarch in Gen. 32:24-30. Henceforward the descendants of Jacob were referred to by either name. Here the two lines parallel one another as is typical in Hebrew poetical construction.

Rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately (Joel 2:23)
