Related to the Lesson-Sermon for August 3, 1975, in the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY Subject: Love

The Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel (Isa. 43:1)

The use of the names Jacob and Israel recalls the Peniel experience of the patriarch in Gen. 32:24-30. Henceforward the descendants of Jacob were referred to by either name. Here the two lines parallel one another as is typical in Hebrew poetical construction.
