When I was a young woman, before I had ever heard of Christian Science, I was extremely ill. I could not digest anything much. All I had each day was steamed fish, bread, and a little milk.

I was treated in all by five doctors. They were puzzled to know just what to do for me. I was very low in spirits. At night I had claustrophobia. I used to plead with God to take me, as I thought life was not worth living. I could hardly walk. I had spent many hours in hospitals.

Then my husband's boss suggested I go to a hotel on the coast of England. He thought the air might help. My husband asked the proprietor of the hotel to keep an eye on me, and my husband would spend each weekend with me.
