This psalm expresses beautifully how I feel about the goodness...

This psalm expresses beautifully how I feel about the goodness that has poured into my life as a result of Christian Science (Ps. 40:5): "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered."

When I was in my teens, my mother was suffering great pain as the result of a misplaced vertebra. Encouraged by her daughters, she sought help through Christian Science. During her first visit with a practitioner, she was asked to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, while the practitioner gave her treatment. At first she protested that she could not read English (the German-English Edition of Science and Health had not yet been published), but then Mother decided she should at least try and thus express her obedience and humility. During those precious moments she suddenly glimpsed the meaning of the words, "God is Love" (Science and Health, p. 2). The new view of God which this brought was wonderful to her.

About a week later, while Mother was sitting in her living room studying the references the practitioner had given her, suddenly there was a loud snap as she felt her back straighten out and slip into normal order. That was the beginning of many happy, healthy years during which Mother dearly loved the truth as taught in Christian Science. It was also a real beginning in her knowledge of the English language—most of which she learned from reading Science and Health.
