Can we walk through our days unburdened? Is it possible in today's fast-moving and often confusing society for us to remain both relaxed and effective?
It certainly is. The explanation lies in the truth of God and man presented by Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy defines God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Science and Health, p. 587; Man—which includes each one of us—is the full and perfect expression of this one, infinite God.
To make these truths practical, we need to see what it is that would keep us from demonstrating Truth. Christian Science explains that it is the false belief that man is a mortal, having a personal, limited mind separate from God, the only real Mind. This spurious, mortal mind suggests that man is a separate, detached being, the origin of good, intelligence, joy, activity, and so forth. What a burden this would place on us! It would require of each of us that we look to persons—ourselves or others—for originality, creativity, and capability. If we accept this view of ourselves, we may dread each new day, panic in an examination, feel tension on a job, or experience conflict in a relationship. However, because mortality is not the truth of man, all of this inharmony can be healed through reliance on God.
