The Law of Life

Real life is the activity of divine Life, or God. God is infinite, All. There is nowhere that Life is not, nor any time when Life is not. Life is irresistible because in its very infinitude it neither confronts nor includes anything inconsistent with itself. The allness of Life is the law of Life, and in all of timeless eternity this law has not been broken by the occurrence of even one death. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mary Baker Eddy makes the strong assertion, "Any material evidence of death is false, for it contradicts the spiritual facts of being." Science and Health, p. 584;

Admittedly, it may take very little skepticism to say, "Don't try to tell me I'll live forever!" And to add, "I'm quite sure I will die, sooner or later!" Mortals do die, as the term implies.

But what is the "I" that insists on its mortality? Disbelief in the inevitability and eternality of Life—the only I, or Ego, in Science— issues from a supposed consciousness that is convinced of the inevitability of death. This specious consciousness is termed in Science mortal mind. Our real and only identity, this teaching asserts, is actually the idea of divine Life, the one I, and we can begin demonstrating this. The manifestation of immortal Life—man and the universe—can no more die than can immortal Life. The death of Life would be a contradiction, a nonexperience, an impossibility.
