I am not a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist

I am not a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist. In fact, until April, 1974, I knew very little about Christian Science. Since 1969, my health had not been very good. I had suffered from a series of heart attacks and increasingly and dangerously high blood pressure to such an extent that by April, 1974, I did not expect to live much longer. A medical examination made at a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, at that time only confirmed previous medical examinations made elsewhere. I was given a prescription for a medication to use whenever I had any more attacks. I was very frightened and extremely depressed.

One Sunday morning in April, while walking beside a large reflecting pool near Huntington Avenue in Boston, I passed in front of a large edifice, which I knew was a Christian Science church. I did not enter because, frankly, my opinion of Christian Science at that time was not very good and because I did not think highly of people who "did not believe in doctors."

Next to the large church was a smaller church edifice, which also faced the same reflecting pool. My eyes were drawn to a sign reading "Spanish Church Services." The sign did not mention that this was also a Christian Science church, and I did not realize that this was the Original Mother Church edifice.
