The Call
Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania
On December 13th in his column "Thinking It Over," [the author] referred to Christian Scientists as able to overcome pain by forgetting or ignoring it.
Simply forgetting a bodily ache or pain is far from being an accurate description of Christian Science. It would be truer to say that healing in Christian Science starts with not forgetting God and the timeless promises in the Bible. The Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has written, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 1).
