A Mustard Seed of Faith

Compared to a grain of wheat, a mustard seed is small; and in comparison with a peach pit, it is a veritable trifle. Yet a mustard seed was the quantum Jesus used to measure the faith that heals. When his disciples asked Jesus why they had failed to heal the epileptic boy whom he healed with a word, he answered, "Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matt. 17:20;

In reading two Christian Science Sentinels given me by a neighbor, I found that a mustard seed of faith really can move mountains of doubt. I read the Sentinels because I had long been wondering why Christian Scientists thought they could heal as Jesus did. I thought it was a wonderful faith and that now I would learn all about the why and how of Christian Science healing.

I read every article and testimony in both Sentinels. All the articles were about God. They told how good He is, how great His love, that He never punishes unjustly, and that His power is omnipotent and overcomes all evil. The name Father-Mother God was new to me, and the thought of God as Mother, as well as heavenly Father, brought a comforting sense of the tenderness, gentleness, and patience of a loving parent.
