What Is a Miracle?
Few words are more misunderstood than the word "miracle." Mrs. Eddy defines "miracle" in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, as "that which is divinely natural, but must be learned humanly; a phenomenon of Science." Science and Health, p. 591;
What are considered miraculous interventions of Deity in the affairs of men are revealed through Christian Science to be demonstrations of divine law. These demonstrations show the superiority of God's law over so-called material laws.
God is Principle, and Principle is expressed through unvarying spiritual laws. God's state of perfect spiritual being is always in existence, though our vision of it may seem temporarily shrouded by the dense beliefs of materiality. When our thought is spiritually receptive, the veil of materiality lifts, and we can discern the unchanging serenity and performance of God's all-harmonious and flawless creation. We become conscious of divine law in operation right where we are.
