Christian Science became a way of life for me when my mother turned to it for healing. She had been told by an eminent surgeon that she had incurable cancer. I had never heard of this religion, that I recall. But when she turned to it, she had need for me to drive her to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. So I began attending also and studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly with her. She was healed so quickly in Christian Science of the cancer that only the doctor who had diagnosed the disease and the neighbor who had persuaded her to try Christian Science knew of her condition. Her immediate family were told of it after the healing. At this time much fear and resentment were overcome in her thought.

When we first started attending the branch church, I was under a doctor's care for acute acne. Although I'd had many kinds of treatment and spent a great deal of money, like the woman in the fifth chapter of Mark, I "was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse" (v. 26). Almost simultaneously with my beginning the study of Science the doctor took a month off from work. He said that when he returned he would try again to cure the acne.

During his absence the skin condition was completely healed. There was not a mark on my face, although the doctor had said I would be badly scarred. I honestly was not even aware of the healing taking place. This healing came about through no understanding of my own, for I didn't understand Christian Science at all as yet, although I felt its peace. But I do feel that the loving members of the church we attended were probably endeavoring to see, in their own view of me, the child of God, as was a member of my family who was a Christian Science practitioner. For many years after this healing, which was permanent, there were occasional comments on the smoothness and clearness of my complexion.
