LIGHT OF CHRISTMAS

Bedded on barren hillsides of materialism,
cloaked in stupefying dreams,
through twenty centuries
shepherds have slept unseeing,
while above them
the Bethlehem star yet shines.

Whenever a lone shepherd
wakes and sees,
then rises to follow in the way
of that unquenchable light,
then it is Christmas.
