Interview with a Teen-age Actress and Pop Singer
At the age of five Jewel Blanch was Australia's youngest pop singer and recording artist. Now a teen-ager, she lives in California and has appeared in major films. One critic called her "a remarkable young actress" and actor Dick Van Dyke, who appeared as her father in his dramatic film The Morning After, said of Jewel, "She's absolutely marvelous." This young Christian Scientist, who's also studying at college, still finds time for committee work at her branch church.
You've been a performer and a hit since you were a young child. Were you aware as a youngster of how Christian Science helped shape your life?
Yes, I was. I always had a simple knowledge that God was my Father-Mother and that He could give me only good. When I turned three, I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where I learned about Christ Jesus and that God is Love and everyone reflects Him.
