WHO PATIENTLY WAIT UPON THE LORD OF HOSTS

After the risk is taken,
the challenge given

allow for the lull,
for the blank suspension
of all action

until—like
glittering legions summoned
from a ring of ramparts
hard against heaven—

the forces are drawn
on to the field chosen:

and there felled

by no man's weapon.
