Regular attendance in Christian Science Sunday Schools was a great privilege, as it led me to seek and find God as my comforter. The Sunday School university-age classes have been especially meaningful to me because of the relevance of the teaching. From childhood through young adulthood I enjoyed freedom from stress of any kind and perfect health.

However, about eleven years ago I had a severe digestive problem. The discomfort was acute, with frequent evidence of internal hemorrhaging. At this time I was seeking progress and success in my chosen field through inspiration from daily study at a Christian Science Reading Room. Although there was more harmony in my home and business, I became weaker and was physically unfit to take advantage of the educational opportunities that were coming my way. Every time there was an acute attack I called a Christian Science practitioner to give me prayerful treatment. The relief was always quick, and I was most grateful for the peace and freedom from fear that often resulted.

But the problem continued to occur. One night during an unusually severe and painful gastric disturbance, I found that the practitioner I had been calling was out of town. The encouraging thought that came to me was, "Now, stand firmly on the truth that where you are, God, good, the only power, is. His power knows no opposition." I repeated "the scientific statement of being" from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It reads in part (p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." I also repeated the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation as given in the textbook. It begins (p. 16):
