Some, years ago my physical condition was becoming alarming; I was always tired and continued to lose weight regardless of the amount I ate. I finally realized that I had to do something drastic, or I would not be able to continue working. I had been attending a Church of Christ, Scientist, for some time, and was impressed by the logic of what I heard at church services. However, I seemed unable to apply the truths I heard to my need for better health.

Finally I decided to read the last chapter, entitled "Fruitage," in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This chapter includes testimonies written by people who were healed by reading Science and Health. I was encouraged by these testimonies to read the entire book and expect healing to follow. As I was in a weakened condition, it took three months to complete the reading.

Two nights after I finished the book, I was wakened from sleep about midnight by a stir in my system. I recognized it as chemicalization, which Mrs. Eddy explains on page 422: "If the reader of this book observes a great stir throughout his whole system, and certain moral and physical symptoms seem aggravated, these indications are favorable." And on the same page she says: "These changes which go on in mortal mind serve to reconstruct the body." This explanation was fresh in my thought and prevented fear from overcoming me.
