Recently I had an experience proving the words of the Psalmist (7:10): "My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart," and Mrs. Eddy's teaching that an understanding of God is a saving thing, equal to all emergencies (see Science and Health, p. 406).
I was watering shrubs in our secluded garden in the middle of the morning, and as the day was exceedingly hot, I had left the house doors open, contrary to my usual practice. A man entered the house without being noticed and searched unsuccessfully for money.
I was quite alone, and when I entered the front door and saw this man standing in the hall near my bedroom door, I got a shock. He had a pistol in his hand and threatened to shoot me unless I gave him money. He spoke broken English.
