BEFORE DAWN
Is it Venus
that tops the tallest pine
framed by my window?
A little star caught
in the branches of the maple
twinkles intermittently.
But only a planet shines with
the constancy and reassurance
of this one that rides high
and wakens me
to the beauty and order
of the universe.
Tomorrow perhaps I can identify it.
Now I gratefully rejoice
to know God's all-harmonious power.
