IS THERE A DAVID?

Is there a David for this battlefield?
Mark how the armies, wearied with the fray,
Tremble beneath the rattling sword and shield,
Cringe as they set up camp another day.

Somewhere in quiet moments there must be—
Eager, alert—a simple childlike trust,
Made pure by days and nights alone with Thee
Tending the Father's sheep—and grown robust.

Send, Love, this David forth to meet the foe
So terrifying now. It, too, must fall
To unencumbered zeal that dares to know
Man need not be afraid; our God is All.
