I am very grateful that Christian Science came into my life
I am very grateful that Christian Science came into my life. When it was first presented to my mother, she tried to share it with me, but I was antagonistic to what I thought it was. However, around this time I contracted a case of eczema on the backs of my hands; it was unsightly as well as uncomfortable. After two months of medical treatment I was told by a physician that there was no known sure cure for the condition. At this point I turned to Christian Science.
My mother gave me two statements she had found in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I used. One of these is (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." In four days my hands were completely free, and the healing has been permanent. With such a clear-cut proof of its healing efficacy, I turned to the study of Christian Science in earnest.
Healings in Science are stepping-stones assisting us in our spiritual progress. One such healing occurred when our daughter was about five years old. I was frying food in a pan of hot grease. Our daughter was at my elbow watching. As I had one large salmon steak over the pan, I warned her to step back, but she did not move. The steak slipped off the fork and splashed hot grease all over her face. She cried out in pain, and I immediately began declaring "the scientific statement of being" aloud. It includes these words (ibid., p. 468): "I here is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. " When I was partly through the statement, our daughter joined me in repeating it. As we finished, her older brother, who had come to help, offered to take her into the living room and read a children's article to her from a Sentinel.
