As a teen-ager I had a deep yearning to understand God and my relationship to Him. I felt I didn't know anything at all of the nature of God. In my late teens I met a woman who invited me to attend a Christian Science church service and I felt that at last a religion had reached me that could teach me the meaning of God.
There was no sudden burst of understanding. In fact, I found that spiritual understanding of God and man is a continuing experience. The Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly that Christian Scientists study daily taught me to love the Bible and the words and works of Christ Jesus.
When I began the study of Christian Science, I was having treatment from a surgeon for goiter. At first I gave no thought to being healed in Science. It was enough for me that I was beginning to feel the love of God in my life. However, I stopped going to the doctor, although I still had the physical problem.
