I wish to express my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower,...

I wish to express my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, his faithful follower.

While a child, I attended a Christian Science service held in a cottage near my home. But it was not until many years later that I took up the study of this Science and was healed of deep grief through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner.

One morning some years ago I found myself unable to move normally. I knew the difficulty to be muscular rheumatism, for which I had tried many cures before coming to Christian Science. Although I felt great pain with every attempt to move, the words of Mrs. Eddy came to me (Science and Health, p. 385): "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." I also recalled a statement made to me by a practitioner when helping me with another problem: "It doesn't belong to you." From that moment the pain, although still evident, seemed to be no part of me. However, I was unable to straighten my back. I again realized that this condition did not belong to me, for I was God's perfect idea and not subject to disease and disability. The physical condition remained the same, but I felt a great sense of gratitude and peace. I studied the Lesson-Sermon for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly, and when I put the Bible and Science and Health away, I realized that I was completely free. This healing has been permanent.
