A few weeks ago my neighbor was driving me to work. She mentioned that she had heard over the radio that a new, virulent form of virus was coming into our area. I dismissed this because I am learning in Christian Science that disease is not real.

However, a week later, after dinner, I suddenly felt quite ill. My body was burning with fever, followed by chills. I thought, "Why has this come to me?" And the answer came, "It came to you for healing. And so I started my metaphysical work, praying not just for myself. I declared the truth that God never made disease and that it couldn't really afflict me or anybody. And then I specifically prayed for myself.

I reasoned that I was God's image and reflection—perfect and whole. And then the Christ-thought came to me to ponder the synonyms for God. I thought, "God is Life; therefore I have life abundantly. God is Truth; therefore the truth is that I am God's child, perfect and whole. God is Love; therefore I am God's beloved child, loving and beloved. God is Soul; therefore I am living Soul-filled, not sense-filled, years. God is Spirit; therefore I am a spiritual idea living in the atmosphere of divine Love. God is Principle; therefore I am expressing integrity. I cannot bear false witness to a creation that God pronounced very good. God is Mind; therefore I have that Mind 'which was also in Christ Jesus' (Phil. 2:5), that Mind which sees only the perfect man." I worked with these thoughts all that night and the next day. The chills left me, and on the third day the fever left.
